General : Muhyiddin Brings Cheer To Flood Evacuees In Terengganu

DUNGUN, Dec 29 (Bernama) — Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today visited two relief centres in flood-ravaged Terengganu and brought cheer to more than 1,300 evacuees.

He called first at the relief centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Durian Mentangau and then went to SK Kampung Nyior.

The deputy prime minister was accompanied by Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman; state secretary Datuk Mazlan Ngah and Terengganu National Security Council acting secretary Roslina Ngah.

After the helicopter landed at the Padang Arena Merdeka here at about 9.30 am, Muhyiddin and his group boarded a four-wheel-drive vehicle to go to SK Durian Mentangau, about 10 km away.

Along the way, some members of the group had to take a boat to the relief centre. About 600 people have been accommodated at SK Durian Mentangau for about a week.

Muhyiddin, who is also chairman of the National Disaster Management and Relief Committee, spent about an hour at the relief centre. He was given a briefing on the flood situation by Dungun district officer Datuk Mohd Akil Mat.

At the SK Kampung Nyior relief centre, Muhyiddin chatted with some of the 779 evacuees from Kampung Pinang Merah and Kampung Nyior who have been staying there since Dec 17.

As of this afternoon, 21,738 people were still at relief centres in Terengganu.
