This dish dates back to the Vietnam War era, where Thai cooks served it to the US Marine Corps and Air Force personnel stationed in Thailand at that time.
The cooks thought this dish was ‘American’ because it’s used ingredients like fried chicken, sausages, ketchup and ham that were American or at least Western in origin.
However, the Malaysian version of this dish has no pork. It is beef or chicken.
