From Farhanah Azmi

GLASGOW, July 25 (Bernama) — Malaysia’s national rhythmic gymnastic team clinched the bronze medal at the ongoing 20th Commonwealth Games at the SSE Hydro Arena here, Thursday.

The team, consisting of Amy Kwan Dict Weng, Wong Poh San and Fatin Zakirah Zain Jalany, accumulated 135.825 points and outclassed favourite team England for the bronze.

The event was won by Canada on 141.450 points and the silver medal by Wales with 136.625 points.

Although they were pleased with the bronze medal, the trio admitted that they had been aiming for the gold.

“We have performed our best here and was a bit disappointed. Actually we aim for the gold medal but winning the bronze medal is okay. We are happy with what we achieved,” said the 19-year-old Amy.

As for Poh San, the long and tiring competition day paid off for them.

The competition started from 10.30am and ended at about 10.30pm (about 5.30am Malaysian time).

She hoped that the three of them could have enough rest to continue their competition in the individual all-around event on Friday.
