General : Water Situation In KL, Selangor Almost Back To Normal – Syabas

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 14 (Bernama) — Clean water supply in the federal capital and Selangor which faced an unscheduled disruption due to contamination in Sungai Selangor on Saturday has been 97.4 per cent restored as of 9am Tuesday.

Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) assistant general manager (Corporate Communication and Public Affairs) Priscilla Alfred said clean water supply had been restored in 943 of the 968 areas.

She said consumers yet to be re-supplied were those living in high areas and fringes of the distribution system.

“To ease the burden of consumers (still not getting supply), water tankers are being despatched to distribute water to those in a dire situation,” she said in a statement here Tuesday.

However, Priscilla said because of the huge area affected, assistance through use of water tankers and static tanks could not cope with consumers’ needs.

She urged consumers who have had their water supplied restored to use the precious commodity sparingly as this would help alleviate the situation further.

Hydraulic fluid contamination in Sungai Selangor had forced several water treatment plants to close at 8pm on Saturday, leaving thousands caught without clean water supply. The contamination incident is under investigation.
