General : Sultan Nazrin Shah To Be Enthroned As 35th Sultan Of Perak On May 6 Next Year

IPOH, Dec 5 (Bernama) — Sultan Nazrin Shah is to be enthroned as the 35th Sultan of Perak on May 6 next year at the Istana Iskandariah in Kuala Kangsar.

Perak Dewan Negara secretary Datuk Ayop Hashim said that upon the advice of the Perak Dewan Negara, which met on Nov 22, Sultan Nazrin Shah has consented to the date of the ceremony.

He said the ‘Tabal Adat’ ceremony would take place at the Istana lskandariah on the morning of May 6, followed by the ‘Tabal Pusaka’ and Bersiram Tabal’ ceremonies on the night of May 7.

His Royal Highness the Sultan of Perak and Her Royal Highness the Raja Permaisuri Perak will visit the graves of past sultans and then travel downstream on the Sungai Perak from Pasir Salak to Teluk Intan.

“The enthronement ceremony will conclude with Sultan Nazrin Shah setting foot on Beting Beras Basah where the first Sultan of Perak, Sultan Muzaffar Shah I (Marhum Tanah Abang 1528-1549), set foot when he reached Perak,” he said in a statement Friday.

Ayop said that in conjunction with the enthronement, various events were being planned which would include receiving Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah and other members of the royalty; the Yang Dipertuas Negeri; Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak; Cabinet ministers; heads of foreign missions and guests from home and abroad.

“Religious events and activities that provide an opportunity for the sultan to mingle with the people will be held during the enthronement,” he said.

Sultan Nazrin Shah, 58, was proclaimed as the 35th Sultan of Perak on May 29 following the demise of his father, Sultan Azlan Shah, the previous day.

Sultan Azlan Shah died at the age of 86.
