General : State Governments Advised To Offer Incentives To Lure Creative Industry Players

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 6 (Bernama) — State governments are advised to offer some incentives to lure international creative industry players to make films or dramas which can help promote the states.

Communication and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek said the incentives which could be given in any forms would also function as an investment that would bring about hefty profit to the states’ economic sector.

“We will discuss this matter further with the state governments and local authorities.

“There should be a mechanism to lure those drama and film producers to choose the states as one of the locations for their production. If the states can provide hotel or budget hotel accommodation, that can also be the incentives.”

He said this to reporters after presenting the prizes to winners of ‘Mencintaimu’ drama series quiz and Most Creative Love Expression Contest here today.

Also present were Communication and Multimedia Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Abdul Rahim Mohamad Radzi, Broadcasting director-general Datuk Abu Bakar Ab Rahim and Bright Network Sdn Bhd managing director Raja Alawiah Idris.

Ahmad Shabery said countries like South Korea had also given incentives to film makers to make their films at its famous tourist destinations, hence promoting the country to the world.

“This is because the multiplier effects include having the world community to learn about the places, the available hotels, the scenic view, the food, the malls…enabling the country involved to promote itself, its cities, its food, its cultures through films,” he said.

Earlier in his speech, Ahmad Shabery also called on local creative industry players to be creative in promoting their works and not to depend solely on television stations.

“Their products can also be promoted via YouTube. In this competitive world, we have to be creative in diversifying our promotional methods,” he said.
