General : SAR Operation For Missing Man Postponed Due To Bad Weather

KUANTAN, Dec 22 (Bernama) — A search and rescue operation (SAR) for a man who went missing in Pantai Kampung Baru Gebeng near here yesterday had to be postponed due to heavy rain and rough seas.

Pahang Fire and Rescue Department operations head Senior Superintendent Ramli Yusof said the operation involving 40 personnel from four rescue agencies would be resumed tomorrow if the weather improved.

“We resumed the operation at 7 am this morning at around 300 metres from the spot the man was reported missing.

“We have not found any lead or evidence of the victim’s position right now,” he told reporters here Monday.

Yesterday, Tan Kok Meng, 37, of Batu 3 near here and his friend, Cheah Yong San, 33, of Taman Kurnia Jaya went missing after their boat was hit by strong waves while fishing in the area.

Cheah, however, managed to swim to safety.

In this regard, Pahang deputy police chief Datuk Fatimah Ghazali, who is also observing the SAR operation, advised members of the public not to carry out any sea activities during this bad weather condition.
