General : PLKN Trainees In Kelantan To Be Moved To Other Camps – Hishammuddin

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 9 (Bernama) — Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said 1,088 National Service Training Programme (PLKN) trainees from three camps in Kelantan would be moved to camps in other states beginning Saturday.

Of the 1,088 trainees, 378 were from Cancun Park Camp in Pasir Mas, 344 from Batu Jong Camp in Kuala Krai and 366 from Etnobotani Camp in Gua Musang, he said.

The camps were vacated for conversion into temporary evacuation centres for flood victims in the state.

“The transfer process for the trainees would take two days, that is, tomorrow and Sunday.

“The National Service Training Department has identified PLKN camps in Terengganu, Pahang, Perak and Selangor to relocate the trainees,” he said after the presentation of jackets to the MALBATT 850-1 and MALBATT 850-2 contingents here Friday.

Hishammuddin said the trainees’ parents had been informed of the move.

Meanwhile, he said the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) had made 319 flights using the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF)’s assets to carry out ‘Ops Murni’ operations nationwide since Dec 25 last year.

He said 790 tonnes of essential items had been channeled to the affected floods via the military air transport.

“The collection centre at the RMAF base in Subang received 3,409.5 tonnes of supply and 3,227 tonnes of these had been distributed to the affected areas,” he said.

Meanwhile, Hishammuddin said the deadly attack at the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo offices on Wednesday must not be taken lightly as it could happen in any country.

“What happened in Paris is not what Islam teaches. The culprits committed an act which is wrong in religion,” he said.

In the incident on Wednesday, three masked gunmen opened fire at the Charlie Hebdo offices killing 12 people and seriously injuring three others.

On the arrest of an ex MAF commando on suspicion of involvement with an Islamic State (IS) militant group, he said the defence ministry would cooperate with the Royal Malaysian Police to eliminate militant activities in the country.

“International intelligence agencies such as in the U.S., China and United Kingdom, see this militant influence as coming from the social media,” he said.

Local newspapers today reported that a former MAF commando was detained by Saudi Arabia authorities in Riyadh on Dec 28 for alleged association with an IS militant group.

The man from Perak is among 132 alleged militants who were detained at the Saudi-Jordan border.
