General : Najib Holds Four-Eyed Meeting With Indonesian President


PUTRAJAYA, Feb 6 (Bernama) — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on Friday held a four-eyed meeting with visiting Indonesian President Joko Widodo at the Perdana Putra Complex here.

Najib and Joko, who is fondly known as Jokowi, are scheduled to attend a delegation meeting later before holding a joint press conference.

The meeting is expected to discuss a wide range of issues, including economic, labour recruitment and maritime territorial matters.

Najib and his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, are also scheduled to host an official luncheon in honour of Jokowi, his wife Iriana and the Indonesian delegation.

Joko is scheduled to visit the Proton car manufacturing plant with a view to exploring cooperation opportunities between the two countries in the automotive field.

Jokowi, who took office as the Indonesian president on Oct 20 last year, is on a three-day maiden state visit to Malaysia at the invitation of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah.

The president has brought along key cabinet ministers, among them Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi; Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Sofyan Djalil; Minister of Trade Rachmat Gobel and Minister of Manpower M. Hanif Dhakiri as well as Head of the National Agency for the Placement and Protection of Indonesian Workers Overseas, Nusron Wahid; Chief of Presidential Secretariat, Djarot Sri Sulistyo and Military Secretary to the President of Indonesia Tri Wahyudi Sukarno.

Wisma Putra had said in a statement that the Indonesian president’s visit would provide an opportunity for the leaders of the two countries to take stock of the progress of bilateral ties.

Indonesia is Malaysia’s sixth largest trading partner globally, and third largest trading partner among the 10 ASEAN member countries.

Total trade between Malaysia and Indonesia was recorded at RM61.1 billion in 2013 and RM54.7 billion for the period of January to November 2014.
