KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 26 (Bernama) — Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today signed the condolence book as a mark of respect over the demise of Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah Abdulaziz.
Muhyiddin was greeted on arrival at the Saudi Arabian embassy in Jalan Ampang here by Saudi ambassador Fahad A. H. Alrashid.
The Saudi monarch died early Friday at the age of 90 and was laid to rest on Saturday. He was succeeded by Crown Prince Salman Abdulaziz.
Fahad told reporters later that Muhyiddin had expressed his sadness and offered his condolences over the demise of the king.
The envoy said he was touched by the expression of sadness and sympathy of the Malaysian government.
“It was an opportunity for me to thank the Malaysian government for it,” he said, noting that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak himself had cut short his attendance at the World Economic Forum in Davos to attend the late King’s funeral in Riyadh,” he said.
He added that those who wished to express their sympathies had until Wednesday to do so.
