PUTRAJAYA, July 8 (Bernama) — Fifteen new members of the National Entrepreneurship Council for Higher Education (MKPTN) for 2014 today received their letters of appointment from Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Muhyiddin, who is also the Education Minister, handed over the letters after chairing a meeting of the council.

In a statement issued after the meeting, he said it was hoped that the council members would carry on with their achievements in the area of entrepreneurial development programmes in institutions of higher learning.

“MKPTN must also serve as the best platform to continue to provide the best ecosystem for tertiary students to move on to become entrepreneurship-minded graduates,” he added.

MKPTN, he said, should also enhance cooperation and involvement of industries with institutions of higher learning to implement entrepreneurship-based structured programmes to enhance the internship programmes of the institutions.

The council members include Education Ministry secretary-general II Datuk Seri Dr Zaini Ujang; SME Corporation Malaysia CEO Datuk Hafsah Hashim; Malaysian Technology Development Corporation (MTDC) CEO Datuk Norhalim Yunus; Perbadanan Usahawan Nasional Berhad (PUNB) CEO Dzulkifli Fadzilah and Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) director-general Datuk Ibrahim Ahmad.

MKPTN was established on March 15, 2011, with the aim of assisting the ministry to enhance efforts and implementation of the Entrepreneurial Development Policy for institutions of higher learning and the Entrepreneurial Strategic Plan for these institutions.

So far, 4,060 graduates from institutions of higher learning have become entrepreneurs within three years after the launch of the Entrepreneurial Development Policy for institutions of higher learning.
