General : MPs Observe Minute’s Silence For Victims Of MH17 Tragedy

KUALA LUMPUR, July 23 (Bernama) — Members of Parliament from both sides of the political divide stood up and observed a minute’s silence as a mark of respect for the victims of the Malaysia Airlines (MAS) plane crash, at a special sitting of the Dewan Rakyat Wednesday.

The house also extended condolences to the families of the 298 passengers and crew of Flight MH17 which went down in eastern Ukraine last Thursday. The plane is believed to have been shot down.

As the Dewan Rakyat convened for the special sitting, Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia said he hoped that the families of the passengers and crew would be bold and courageous in facing their moment of grief.

“On July 17, the nation was shocked by the tragedy of MH17, a flight from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur.

“I and all the MPs are saddened by the incident. The house prays and hopes that all efforts to secure and bring back the bodies of the victims will be executed smoothly,” he said.
