General : MMEA Increases Assets To Improve Security In Esszone

SANDAKAN, Aug 1 (Bernama) — The addition of a ship for the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) in the Sandakan Maritime District (MD17) is expected to improve security in Sandakan which is one of the districts under the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (ESSZone).

MD17 MMEA Chief, Maritime Captain A. Razak Abd Rahman said the Maritime Ship (KM) Merlin, manned by 30 personnel, would assist operations in the district to overcome whatever external threat especially incursions by foreign terrorists.

“The increase in asset strength was to meet the request by the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) to ensure that the ESSZone enjoyed peace as desired by the people,” he told reporters after receiving the arrival of KM Merlin at the Sri Sandakan base, here Thursday night.

KM Merlin and another ship, KM Tegas from peninsular Malaysia arrived here at about 5pm yesterday.

Capt A. Razak said KM Merlin would begin operations tomorrow while KM Tegas would begin operations in Tawau today.
