MELAKA, July 7 (Bernama) — Melaka is projecting a broadband penetration of 75 percent by the end of next year from 65 percent currently, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron.

He was confident the target could be achieved based on the rapid development in the information technology sector in the state.

“My wish is that a mother in her kichen can monitor her child’s movement in school besides interacting directly with the teachers as a result of the technological advancement enjoyed by the people in the state,” he told reporters after attending the Melaka state government monthly gathering here Monday.

He said all government departments and institutes of higher learning in the state had been directed to widen their wireless internet (wifi) coverage and not limit it within their respective huildings.

Idris also hoped that all wifi and broadband facilities in the state could be utilised fully by the people and not being abused for negative purposes.
