General : Johor Targets Zero Squatters In Five Years

JOHOR BAHARU, Dec 2 (Bernama) — The Johor government aims to achieve zero squatter in five years, especially squatter settlements built on state land.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the target was to ensure that people in the state live in comfortable homes.

“For squatters occupying private land, we hope that they can work things out with the landowners,” he told reporters after visiting squatters of Kampung Rinting C in Pasir Gudang, who suffered losses after a fire.

The 3 pm fire yesterday destroyed 16 houses and displaced 76 people.

Meanwhile, Kampung Masai headman Roslan Wahab, 56, said the fire victims would be placed at a People’s Housing Project (PPR) nearby.

The fire victims are now putting up at the Kampung Rinting C surau.
