General : High Tide Phenomenon: Public In Terengganu Advised Not To Visit Beaches

MARANG, Dec 23 (Bernama) — The public is advised not to visit or carry out recreational activities along the beaches in Terengganu during the high tide and big wave phenomenon to avoid any untoward incident.

State police deputy chief, Datuk Hashim Abd. Jalil said police would station personnel at risky locations including the beach resort areas to ensure public safety.

He said police would also monitor the coastal areas and record the water levels, and if they exceed the warning level, police would order for immediate evacuation from the affected areas.

“I advise residents living near the beaches to be always cautious and to follow instructions from the relevant authorities,” he said when contacted, here, Tuesday.

Hashim said the phenomenon should not be a treated as fiesta time, but the public should instead pay attention to safety during the monsoon season to avoid any undesirable incident.

The high tide and big wave phenomenon has caused some areas including Pulau Warisan, Batu Buruk, Pasar Payang and Dataran Shah Bandar to be inundated.
