General : Family Members Can Visit Prisoners This Deepavali

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 16 (Bernama) — In conjunction with the Deepavali celebration next week, the Prisons Department is allowing family members of prisoners, as well as inmates at the reform centres and Henry Gurney School to visit them.

According to a statement from the department issued today, the visiting hours will be from 8.15am to 4.15pm, and priority will be given to prisoners and inmates of the Hindu faith.

“Visitors are reminded to bring their visit pass and identity card to avoid any problem for the visit, and they are not encouraged to give money to the prisoners or inmates.

“If they wish to give money to them for certain purposes like paying for examination fee, they should get the official receipt PPT.28 as acknowledgement,” the statement said.

Deepavali this year falls on Oct 22.
