General : Civil Servants Must Explain The GST To The Public

KOTA KINABALU, Nov 5 (Bernama) – The 1.52 million civil servants must act as government spokesman by explaining the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) in April next year.

Director-General of Public Service Department (PSD) Tan Sri Mohamad Zabidi Zainal said the civil servants must involve their family members, the community and society.

“As main drivers for the implementation of government policies, civil servants must provide indepth understanding of the GST,” he told reporters after launching the myGST4U Tour at Sabah Federal Administration Complex here, today.

The myGST4U Tour is the latest initiative of the PSD in an effort to disseminate information on the GST.

It has improved understanding among staff of the Royal Malaysian Customs Department, Ministry of Communications and Multimedia and the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism has improved.

Mohamad Zabidi said this was based on answers given to the questionaire.

“Implementation of the GST will not succeed without the support of civil servants as they are responsible to correct the misperception and promote its advantages.”

He stressed that civil servants still practice high integrity despite the involvement of several enforcement officers in corruption and abuse of power.

Sabah is the second state to launch the MyGST4U Tour in an effort to spread the government’s agenda, policies and transformation programmes.

The campaign was participated by over 1,500 civil servants from various state and federal government agencies and statutory bodies.
