JAKARTA, Dec 31 (Bernama) — The recovered bodies of the passengers and crew of an AirAsia Indonesia aircraft that crashed in the Java Sea on Sunday will be flown to Surabaya for identification by the authorities, according to a news portal.

The portal, suara.com, quoted a spokesman of the Indonesian national search and rescue team, Bambang Soelistyo, as saying that three bodies were recovered overnight in the waters off Pangkalan Bun in Central Kalimantan.

“During the search from last night to this morning, we found three bodies – two of men and one of a woman clad in stewardess attire,” he said. This brings to six the number of bodies recovered so far.

The bodies are from among the 162 passengers and crew of AirAsia Indonesia Flight QZ8501 which crashed during the flight from Surabaya to Singapore. They were found floating in the waters close to Pangkalan Bun.

The AirAsia Indonesia Airbus A320-200 had left Surabaya at 5.20 am on Sunday and was scheduled to land at the Changi airport in Singapore at 8.30 am (Singapore/Malaysian time) on the same day.

The last contact between the plane and air traffic control was at 6.12 am (7.12 am Malaysian time).

The passengers on the flight comprised 149 Indonesians, three South Koreans, one Singaporean, one Malaysian and one Briton. The crew comprised six Indonesians and one French.
