General : 143 Deaths Due To Dengue From January To September – Dr Subramaniam

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 7 (Bernama) — Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam said today 143 deaths due to dengue fever were reported nationwide for the first nine months of this year.

He said 74,335 cases of dengue fever were reported throughout the country during the period compared with 43,346 cases for the corresponding period of last year and the figure represented the highest number of cases and fatalities recorded compared to the previous years.

He disclosed this in the Dewan Rakyat when replying to a question from Datuk Abdul Aziz Sheikh Fadzir (BN-Kulim, Bandar Baharu) who wanted to know the latest number of cases and fatalities due to dengue fever.

Dr Subramaniam said 92 fatalities were recorded during the corresponding period of last year.

“In order to tackle the dengue situation in the country, the ministry implemented the special action plan to prevent and control dengue, which was the National Level Committee On Dengue Action Plan 2014 which was implemented on July 14,” he added.
