China make shock exit from Thomas Cup

NEW DELHI: Japan put up a giant-killing act when they sent defending champions China crashing out of the Thomas Cup Finals by a 3-0 margin in a semi-final match at Siri Fort Indoor Stadium on Friday.

World number two Chen Long’s defence crumbled under persistent attacks from Kenichi Tago, who set Japan up for a sweet win by taking the first singles 21-13, 21-11.

Chai Biao-Hong Wei failed to restore the advantage and the mighty Chinese team fell further behind as they lost the first doubles 20-22, 19-21 to Kenichi Hayakawa-Hiroyuki Endo.
