Cancer victim’s operation to remove 20kg tumour a success

GEORGE TOWN: Bone cancer patient Thum Mei San finally had her “burden” lifted after undergoing an arm amputation surgery because of a 20kg tumour growing on her left shoulder.

Though weak from the five-and-a-half hour surgery at the Penang Hospital, Thum looked happy after regaining consciousness.

“She can’t speak yet due to the oxygen mask but she was smiling when we visited her,” said her father Thum Soon Seng, 63, yesterday.

He said Thum was wheeled into the operating theatre at about 10am yesterday and was now recuperating at the intensive care unit (ICU).
