Datuk Yong Soo Heong
KUALA LUMPUR, July 3 (Bernama) — Participants attending the National Goods and Services Tax (GST) Conference 2014 on July 10 & 11 can claim a refund from the Human Resources Development Fund (HRDF).

“We are very delighted to have obtained approval from the Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Richard Riot on his granting of the claiming of the HRDF for participants at the seminar.

“We feel like this particular facility is a huge bonus to the participants to upscale and update themselves in terms of the very important GST implementation,” said Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) General Manager Datuk Yong Soo Heong.

Yong said the participants will be given a certificate by Bernama which they can then use to claim the refund from Pembangunan Sumber Manusia Bhd (PSMB).

The HRDF is administered by PSMB, an agency under the Ministry of Human Resources, via the Pembangunan Sumber Manusia Berhad Act, 2001.

He added that people in the various industrial sectors who want to know about the GST could utilise this particular facility to attend the two-day conference at the DoubleTree by Hilton Kuala Lumpur Hotel jointly organised by Bernama and Tax Advisory and Management Services Sdn Bhd (TAMS).

The objective is to equip industry players with the knowledge and capability to comply with the implementation of the GST on April 1 next year.

Key speakers from specific industries, the Finance Ministry and the Royal Malaysian Customs Department would brief participants on the GST.

Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah will open the conference and deliver the keynote address.

In conjunction with the conference, there will also be an exhibition by GST-compliant software companies.

Yong said the Royal Malaysian Customs Department has approved 55 vendors to market GST-compliant software to industry and Bernama has received very good response from a number of software vendors to exhibit their products.

“Participants would be able to know what sort of software that can be used for the implementation of the GST because it is no point talking about being

GST-compliant when one actually does not know what sort of things to do.

“It would be a very fullfiling experience in order to get yourself updated on the provisions of the GST as well as know what sort of facilities that you can get in order to implement the GST,” he added.

Pre-registration for the conference is required and can be done by calling the secretariat Bernama Media Relations & Event Management (MREM) at 03-2694-1024/3 or Nadrah Yusof 03-2692157 (nadrahyusof@bernama.com) or Noor Hanim Noor Hani 03-26962124 (norhanim@bernama.com).
