State police deputy chief, Datuk Hashim Abd. Jalil said police would station personnel at risky locations including the beach resort areas to ensure public safety.
He said police would also monitor the coastal areas and record the water levels, and if they exceed the warning level, police would order for immediate evacuation from the affected areas.
“I advise residents living near the beaches to be always cautious and to follow instructions from the relevant authorities,” he said when contacted, here, Tuesday.
Hashim said the phenomenon should not be a treated as fiesta time, but the public should instead pay attention to safety during the monsoon season to avoid any undesirable incident.
The high tide and big wave phenomenon has caused some areas including Pulau Warisan, Batu Buruk, Pasar Payang and Dataran Shah Bandar to be inundated.
