The delegate, Taufiq Abu Bakar Titingan, said it was not possible to close down vernacular schools in Sabah as many bumiputera students were studying in vernacular schools, according to The Star Online.
Speaking at the Umno general assembly today, Taufiq said 15,120 out of 35,162 students in Chinese vernacular schools were from the bumiputera community.
“There is one Chinese school in Tawau where 84 percent of the students are bumiputera.
“If we close these schools, where are they going to go?” he was quoted as saying.
