Tourism Culture Minister Nazri Abdul Aziz today revealed that landowners are refusing to have the 110-year Vivekananda Ashram in Brickfields from being gazetted as a national heritage site despite attempts to do so by his ministry.
Nazri today fully backed voices to prevent the land where the ashram sits on from being redeveloped, and asked all involved to "continue" in their effort to ensure the ashram and its land stays the way it is.
"It saddens me to see this happen. It's enough that we have lost so many heritage buildings. We have always wanted to gazette it but the owners refused," he said.
