Talk of an imminent Sarawak state election has gained momentum as Sarawak Chief Minister Adenan Satem receives accolades for his first year as the state leader.
He took over as chief minister of Sarawak on Feb 28, 2014. The current term of the present state government ends on June 16, 2016.
Sarawak is a resource rich state but its human development indicators under 50 years of Barisan Nasional (BN) rule raises questions on who has benefited from the wealth of the state.
It is the second poorest state in the country. The Sarawak government says, “There is a long way to go in eradicating poverty in the state and the focus now is on helping the hardcore poor.”
Sarawak has only seven rural clinics out of 212 government-run health facilities in the country.
