Sabah Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan said Sabah were hoping to win gold medals from athletics, badminton, handball, table tennis and wheelchair tennis.
Tawfiq said apart from the 13 gold medals, Sabah had also set a target of winning 17 silver and 14 bronze medals.
“Though the target is lower than before, I believe the athletes will be able to rise to the occasion and spring a few surprises. The reason for the lower target is because a number of potential medal winning events are not included this time,” he told reporters at the flag handing ceremony for the Sabah contingent, here Thursday.
Sabah are sending 47 athletes and 21 officials for the games to be held at the Syed Putra Sports Complex and stadium in Kangar, Perlis.
Tawfiq also urged the athletes to maintain discipline and be careful when using the social media like Facebook, because such activities can lead to unnecessary problems.
