Pointing to the UK’s abolition of slavery as an example, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Paul Low said Malaysia still needs time to transition beyond race-based politics.
He said the abolition in the UK took over two decades, while the US face many social upheavals over the past two centuries to reach its progress today.
“Twenty-five years (to abolish slavery). Why? Because there are entrenched interests involved.
“So you need time for society to mature and ultimately, the young would have a different opinion especially with the existence of social media,” Low told reporters when met at the sidelines of a forum last night.
