UniMAP vice-chancellor, Prof Datuk Dr Kamarudin Hussin said through cooperation with such universities, many activities could be carried out jointly such as training, research and exchange of academic staff.

He said cooperation with selected universities in the top group could propel UniMAP to be among the best 500 universities in the world in future.

Kamaruddin is here on the 10th UniMAP Academic Tour to, among others, explore opportunities for cooperation with top universities in Switzerland.

He said that on Monday, UniMAP visited two universities in Zurich, namely ETH University and the University of Zurich, which are ranked among the top 200 in the world.

He said UniMAP would follow up on the meeting with the top officials of both universities so as to result in collaboration with these universities.

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2014-2015 has splaced ETH University in the 13th spot and University of Zurich in the 103rd.

Kamarudin said as a university which was only 12 years old, UniMAP needed to establish networking with outstanding univerties and to invite their professionals to at least speak at UniMAP.

He said in keeping with the current academic development trend, UniMAP also planned to implement the proposed Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) in line with the country’s needs.

If implemented, the initiative will offer learning via online, hence reducing the lecture hours.
