He said on the contrary, the most appropriate measure that each trader should take is to help consumers deal with the current uncertain economic situation.
“When the GST is implemented, they can no longer raise the price of goods. Therefore, the probability of them raising the prices now is not impossible. Moreover, the price of oil and diesel has dropped. Supposedly, the price of goods should also go down automatically.
“Therefore, I hope business associations act thoughtfully and advise their members on this issue. If it is found that they are still stubborn and raise prices, than proactive enforcement measures must be taken,” he said when contacted by Bernama here today.
Khairuddin also proposed that consumers nationwide report to consumer associations in their respective states or the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism if the price of goods are hiked up at business premises.
“So far, there have been no complaints and people need not worry because it is the responsibility of the ministry to take care of the interests of the consumers and the traders.
“The report should be made immediately if a problem is detected so that appropriate action can be taken against the party involved,” he added.
