The programme was introduced by TH as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) to assist pilgrims, including senior citizens and the sick, to perform the haj rituals.
For this season, TH has identified 50 pilgrims, including 25 women, in need of such assistance.
TH counselling unit manager Fauziah Ahmad said they would be taken care of by TH staff and workers.
“They will not only assist the pilgrims in conducting the haj rituals, but also look after the pilgrims’ needs, including food,” she told the Malaysian media here today.
She said pilgrims travelling with families, but were sickly and needed assistance to perform the haj rituals, would also be considered for the programme.
TH conducts interviews to select pilgrims for the programme and among those who attended the interview today was Hussein Md Said, 82, who fell sick and lost his appetite since arriving in Makkah.
Hussein said he now had to rely on his roommate, Adnan Lop, 60, for help, especially to buy food.
Hussein, an imam from Johor, is one of the recipients of the haj sponsorship under the Prime Minister – 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) Foundation Special Haj Programme.
