General : Sabah Allocates RM35.65 Million For Social Assistance To Schools This Year

SANDAKAN, Jan 19 (Bernama) — The state government has allocated RM35.65 million in funds towards a social assistance programme aimed at helping primary school students this year, said state community development and consumer affairs minister Datuk Jainab Ahmad Ayid.

Of the allocation, she said RM21 million was provided by the ministry while the rest was from the Yayasan Sabah.

The allocation is meant for the purchase of UHT milk, stationery, school uniforms and shoes.

“The programme has been running for the past 30 years and will be continued as the state government’s social responsibility for the people of Sabah and the education sector,” she told reporters after handing over provisions to Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Tinusa here Monday.

Jainab said, of the total allocation, RM16.58 million was spent on UHT milk for 209,743 students; RM16.41 million for school uniforms and shoes (271, 696 students) and RM2.66 million for stationery (263,605 students).

She said last year, RM35.96 million was utilised for the programme.

State government companies Sabah International Dairies Sdn Bhd and Koperasi Serbaguna Sanya Berhad supplied the UHT milk, and school uniforms and shoes, respectively. Stationery was supplied by a private company, CP Forms.
