Its director-general, Datuk Sulaiman Keling, said the department had not issued such a directive and that there was no truth at all in the matter.
“The false statement asking people to renew their MyKad has been spread of late through SMS, WhatsApp and Facebook,” he said in a statement here.
Sulaiman advised the people to ignore the rumour, saying it was being spread by irresponsible individuals.
He said the people could obtain the right information by contacting the department at 03-8000 8000 or by surfing the department’s website at http://www.jpn.gov.my/.
