General : Operators To Bear Minimum Cost Of RM2 Million To Upgrade Each PLKN Camp

NILAI, Aug 28 (Bernama) — The cost to upgrade each National Service Training Programme (PLKN) camp nationwide is between RM2 to RM4 million and shall be borne by the respective camp operators.

National Service Training Department director-general Datuk Abdul Hadi Awang Kechil said this, however, would not involve any allocation from the government.

“They have to bear the upgrading cost themselves. If they fail to complete the upgrading works by June 2015, their contracts will be reviewed and may not be renewed.”

He said this to reporters after attending the conferment of ranks ceremony for PLKN trainees of Group 3 Series 11/2014 at the Seri Perkasa PLKN camp in Mantin, near here, Thursday.

Abdul Hadi said among the facilities that needed upgrading were the dorms and classrooms; logistic building; futsal, basketball and volleyball courts; closed-circuit television cameras; and marching fields.

He said the upgrading works in all camps nationwide were running smoothly so far.

Meanwhile, he said 5,745 PLKN trainees would participate in the Merdeka Day parade nationwide on Aug 31, including at the national level in Kuala Lumpur.

“At the national level, 240 trainees from the PLKN Millennium camp in Beranang and Setia Ikhlas camp in Semenyih will be involved in carrying flags. This is our contribution to the country,” he said.

In conjunction with the country’s 57th Merdeka month celebrations, Abdul Hadi said 600 former PLKN trainees registered under the National Service Volunteers Brigade would also plant 5,700 bunga raya (hibiscus) trees nationwide with the cooperation from local authorities.

“Besides, 81 PLKN camp operators across the country would also plant not less than 50 hibiscus trees in their respective camps,” he added.
