SEREMBAN, Aug 27 (Bernama) — There will be no Ambang Merdeka (Merdeka Eve) celebration in Negeri Sembilan this year, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said.
He said, normally, the Merdeka Eve celebration would involve firework display and concert, but it had to be called off this year as a mark of respect for the victims of the Malaysia Airlines tragedies.
The annual Merdeka Day Parade at the Seremban Municipal Council field, however, will take place as scheduled, he told reporters here today.
Meanwhile, he said the state government had to reject the applications from several non-governmental organisations (NGO) to participate in the Merdeka Day Parade this year for certain reasons.
“Each contingents and participants selected to participate in the parade are strictly those who comply with the theme of this year’s Merdeka celebrations,” he said.
