SEOUL, Dec 9 (Bernama) — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Abdul Razak arrived here Tuesday for a three-day official visit to South Korea to further strengthen the existing bilateral relations between Malaysia and South Korea.
Accompanied by his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, the special aircraft ferrying the prime minister landed at the Seoul Air Base this afternoon, where he was received by the South Korean Director General of Protocol, Lee Yong Soo and First Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Choe Tae Yong.
Also on hand to greet them were Malaysian Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Hamzah Zainuddin, Malaysian Ambassador to South Korea Datuk Rohana Ramli and senior government officials.
The prime minister was later accorded an official welcome at the air base.
This visit is at the invitation of President Park Geun-Hye.
Najib is scheduled to hold a bilateral delegation meeting with Park to steer the future direction of bilateral relations and exchange views on regional and international issues of common interest.
The prime minister will also exchange views with his Korean counterpart on the promotion of peace and stability within the context of Malaysia’s Global Movement of Moderates (GMM) as well as on Asean-South Korea cooperation, particularly with Malaysia’s chairmanship of the regional grouping next year.
This is Najib’s second official visit to South Korea as prime minister. His first visit was in April 2011.
