General : Melaka JPJ Offers Free Car Windscreen Tint Inspection

MELAKA, Nov 7 (Bernama) — The Melaka Road Transport Department (JPJ) is offering a free service for motorists to check their vehicle windscreen and window tint to ensure that it meets the specifications.

Director Azaharuldin Abdullah said the free inspection was available at the Bukit Katil JPJ Enforcement Division between 9 am and 4 pm from Monday to Friday.

“We still give motorists in the state a chance to change the tint of their vehicle windscreens and windows to meet the specifications,” he told reporters after a JPJ integrated operation against traffic offenders at the AMJ (Alor Gajah-Melaka-Jasin) Expressway (Muar-bound) at Bukit Piatu here Thursday night.

From Nov 1, the JPJ enforced a new regulation on the tint for vehicle windscreens and windows.

The new regulation sets the permitted visible light transmission (VLT) for the rear windscreen and rear passenger windows at 30 per cent, down from the current 50 per cent. The VLT for the front windscreen and the driver’s window remains at 70 per cent and 50 per cent.

Azaharuldin said the Melaka JPJ had issued an advisory notice on the tint to 859 vehicles under a special operation conducted at several locations in the state.

This was to educate motorists on the VLT before enforcement of the regulation began in March next year, he added.

Such notice was given to 39 motorists during the AMJ Expressway operation, held with the assistance of the police and the National Anti-Drugs Agency, for two hours from 10 pm Thursday night, he said, adding that 187 vehicles were inspected and 102 summonses issued for 157 offences.
