KOTA BAHARU, Dec 29 (Bernama) — The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission is gathering information on individuals disseminating false news on the floods that hit some states in the country, for action to be taken against them, including charging them in court.
Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek today said the information gathered would be handed over to the Attorney-General’s Chambers for the purpose of prosecution.
“Each of them is being observed, and what is also important is for us, when receiving information, to be careful about believing and sharing that information.
“Sharing means we are helping to disseminate the false or wrong information which can cause public confusion and uneasiness,” he told reporters after visiting the Kelantan Broadcasting Department in Wakaf Che Yeh, here, which was also inundated by flood waters.
Ahmad Shabery was asked to comment on rumours circulated through the social media including WhatsApp on the flood situation which caused worry to the public.
