BEIJING, Sept 5 (Bernama) — Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Hajah Haminah Hamidun,
Friday visited the Summer Palace here.
Their Majesties, who are on a three-day state visit to Beijing, were welcomed by senior officials and were given a briefing by the Summer Palace information officer, Yin Jingjing.
The Summer Palace, a vast ensemble of lakes, gardens and palaces, is mainly dominated by Longevity Hill and the Kunming Lake.
Tuanku Abdul Halim and Tuanku Hajah Haminah took a 30-minute boat ride on the Kunming Lake to enjoy its beauty, following which they were taken to the Aman Resort at the East Gate of the Summer Palace.
The Summer Palace, recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1998, is an attraction for domestic and foreign tourists.
Their Majesties’ state visit to Beijing is at the invitation of China’s President Xi Jinping. It is to reciprocate the visit of Xi to Malaysia in October last year.
The visit coincides with the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China.
