The funeral prayers, led by Federal Territories Mufti Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Albakri, were held for cabin crew Nur Shazana Mohamed Salleh, 31, and co-pilot Ahmad Hakimi Hanapi, 29, whose remains were among the 20 flown home today from the Netherlands.
Their remains were laid to rest at the Taman Selatan Muslim cemetery in Precinct 20 here.
A special sermon was delivered by the Grand Imam of the National Mosque, Tan Sri Syaikh Ismail Muhammad, who was emotionally overcome at one stage.
Malaysia observed a day of national mourning today as the remains of 20 of the 43 Malaysian victims of the July 17 tragedy were flown home from the Netherlands.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak Also attended the prayers. The Friday prayers were led by Syaikh Ismail.
In his sermon, Syaikh Ismail also called on all Muslims to pray for the country to be spared from disasters and tragedies and to continue to be blessed with peace and harmony.
“Let us inculcate the spirit of love among the multi-racial community, strengthen friendship and solidarity among us so that we can all live in peace and harmony and enjoy prosperity and security forever,” he said.
He also called on Muslims to pray for all Malaysians, in general, and the families of the MH17 victims, in particular, to remain strong and calm in this difficult time.
“Let us pray for our relatives and friends who have left us in the MH17 tragedy. May Allah bless their souls,” he said.
Flight MH17 crashed in eastern Ukraine on July 17 as it was flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur with 283 passengers and 15 crew on board. The Boeing 777-200 aircraft is believed to have been shot down over the troubled country.
