SANDAKAN, Jan 14 (Bernama) — The higher monthly living allowance of RM300 for Zone A fishermen would hopefully ease the burden of about 1,800 coastal fishermen in the district.
Sabah Fishermen’s Association, Sandakan zone chief Shaiful Bahari Muin said the assistance and other incentives given by the government were to augment the fishermen’s unsteady income.
“At the same time, the fishermen are also instrumental in meeting the food resources demand here,” he told Bernama Wednesday.
Last October, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak announced while presenting the Budget 2015 that the living allowance for Zone A fishermen would be increased to RM300 from RM200, while that for Zone B and C fishermen, to RM200.
