In view of this, Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri G. Palanivel said the ministry would hold discussions with the Attorney-General’s Chambers to review laws relating to compound offences under the Environmental Quality Act 1974.
He was replying to a question by Charles Anthony Santiago (DAP-Klang) at the Dewan Rakyat here today.
Currently, a maximum compound of RM2,000 may be imposed for any offence related to open burning.
Meanwhile, Deputy Education Minister P. Kamalanathan said the government had allocated RM100 million to place 10,000 students in technical colleges and private vocational colleges to pursue technical and vocational education and training (TVET) programme.
“The government will also increase the intake of students in vocational and community colleges through TVET, as well as upgrade the colleges through an allocation of RM1.2 billion under Budget 2015,” he said in answer to a question by Nasrudin Hassan (PAS-Temerloh).
