Senator Datuk Boon Som Inong said the call by Ismail Sabri that was targetted at stubborn traders was aimed at creating an awareness among consumers of their collective rights to compel traders to lower their prices.
“Given that the prices of petrol and diesel have gone down, it is only appropriate that traders, particularly suppliers and wholesalers, should be concerned about the interests of the consumers and not merely think about making profits,” Boon Som, who is also Malaysian Thai Bumiputera Chambers of Commerce president, said in a statement here today.
He is confident that the people, regardless of their race, wanted to see the prices of goods reduced in tandem with the fall in oil prices.
Ismail Sabri’s statement urging consumers to boycott stubborn traders reflected his concern, especially as he was the former Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism Minister in charge of prices of goods, he said.
