Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Razali Ibrahim said the arrests were made between 2009 until August this year.
“The government also takes educational and prevention steps to address the misconduct with follow-up action being taken, including the setting up of 14 anti-corruption courts.
“Efforts are made to streamline the existing law to increase the enforcement agencies’ capacity and ability through ongoing exercises to raise integrity of the personnel,” he said when replying to a question from Datuk Mohd Zaim Abu Hasan (BN-Parit).
Razali said, from the educational aspect, an anti-corruption secretariat organisation at the public institutions of higher learning level, lectures and advertisement pertaining to integrity enhancement were also implemented on an ongoing basis through the electronic and mass media.
In terms of prevention, he said MACC was also implementing department adoption programme or better known as strategic alliance with high-risk departments that had a high chance of committing such offences.
“Starting this year, engagement activities focus on influential leaders for six targetted groups, namely non-governmental organisations, politicians, rural community. youth, private sector and Chinese community,” he said.
He said, based on studies, these groups were less exposed to accurate information to corruption prevention until it affected the perception on the government and MACC’s seriousness in tackling such crimes.
