KUALA LUMPUR, June 13 (Bernama) — A total of 255,983 Malaysians, or only 0.88 per cent of the country’s population, had pledged their organs between 1997 and May 31 this year, Organ Donation Public Awareness Action Committee chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye said today.
He said majority of the donors who had pledged their organs were Chinese, totalling 128,212 people or 50.09 per cent, followed by Indian (60,057 or 23.46 per cent), Malay (58,846 or 22.99 per cent) and others (8,868 or 3.47 per cent).
“This year alone, 8,399 people had pledged their organs,” he told a media conference here today.
