To be presented by the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong, the award recognises and honours an Islamic finance visionary, whose achievements and innovation contribute significantly to both the growth of the global economy and social progress of communities around the world, according to a statement from the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) Thursday.
The Royal Award, held biennially, is spearheaded by Bank Negara Malaysia and the SC, under the Malaysia International Islamic Financial Centre initiative.
“The Royal Award has seen a 25 per cent increase in nominations since the inauguration in 2010, with nominees coming from all parts of the world.
“It is through the extraordinary leadership and dedication of these visionaries and pioneers that Islamic finance is growing rapidly in Muslim and non-Muslim economies,” said the Chairman of the Jury Panel, Tun Musa Hitam, in the statement.
This year’s nominees mainly come from the Middle East, Southeast Asia and Europe.
