Business : MAS Signs Bimodal Agreement With France’s TGVAIR

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9 (Bernama) — Malaysia Airlines (MAS) today announced a bimodal agreement with TGVAIR, a high-speed rail network that is operated by SNCF, France’s national state-owned railway company.

The agreement would allow MAS to commercialise a journey from start to finish including a TGV journey between a province train station and the Charles de Gaulle (CDG) Airport TGV station as well as a connecting flight on MAS at CDG Airport, MAS said in a statement.

The national carrier said passengers based in the French provinces and travelling on MAS can now enjoy this new train/flight bimodal service departing from 19 TGV train stations.

The service will include check-in from the start of the journey to the final destination, it said.

The new service is available to MAS passengers from TGV train stations namely Aix-en-Provence TGV, Angers-St-Laud, Avignon TGV, Bordeaux St Jean, Champagne-Ardenne TGV, Le Mans, Lille, Lorraine TGV, Lyon, Marseille, Montpellier, Nantes, Nimes, Poitiers, Rennes, St-Pierre-des-Corps, Strasbourg, Toulon and Valence TGV.

When arriving to their departure at SNCF TGV train station, MAS passengers can check-in to their final destination, including on their MAS connecting flight at the CDG Airport.

“This way, they are already pre-checked in when arriving at the CDG Airport,” it said.

MAS said the service offers numerous advantages to MAS passengers in terms of simplicity, flexibility, serenity, time saving, and better value.

MAS said passengers do not need to purchase their flight tickets and TGV train tickets separately.

Passengers travelling from the provinces to Kuala Lumpur and beyond can use a single ticket for their journeys from their departure train station to CDG Airport TGV station, and from CDG Airport to Kuala Lumpur on MAS flights.

Once in Kuala Lumpur, they can continue they journey to any destination in the airlines’ extensive network, it said.

The agreement between MAS and TGVAIR covers 19 cities, spanning the major part of the French territory.

“Regardless of the departure province, there is always a possibility of immediate boarding at a nearby train station,” it said.

Passengers can buy a fare from start to finish, involving a single transport contract, and if they miss their flight or their train because one or the other is delayed, they will be supported, it said.

Besides that, passengers do not need to book separately and coordinate both parts of the trip.

The air/railway ticket is not only more practical, it is also easily modified if necessary, it said.

MAS added that it was much easier and cheaper to choose the combined MAS/ SNCF ticket than to purchase a flight ticket and train ticket separately.
