Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) Deputy Chief Executive Officer Datuk Rajendran Narayanasamy said the centre will help French companies explore opportunities not only in Malaysia but also the region.
“We are seeing growing interest from French companies in the aviation industry, one of the strategic and high-technology areas identified for growth,” he told reporters at the centre’s official opening here today.
“I understand that the capacity of the business centre has grown from eight to 15 and now 22 offices.
“This shows the chamber plays an important role in enhancing bilateral ties between the corporate sectors of France and Malaysia,” he added
Rajendran said Malaysia signed two memorandums of understanding relating to the aviation industry during the visit of French Prime Minister Manuel Valls in July last year.
He said France is one of Malaysia’s major sources of foreign investments in the manufacture of machinery, transport and electrical and electronics products.
For the first seven months of 2014, MIDA approved a total of five manufacturing projects from France with investments of RM110.2 million.
Currently, there are 270 French manufacturing and services companies operating in Malaysia including Lafarge, Airbus and Asiaflex.
