A sad and teary Azizah in Permatang Pauh
There was silence as Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said between tears, “I never thought I would go through this ordeal again”.
Addressing more than 1,000 supporters in Seberang Jaya last night, Azizah apologised for being rather emotional in her speech.
She has lost some weight since her husband and Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim was sent to the Sungai Buloh prison on Tuesday to serve a five-year jail term for sodomy.
“Here I am, tested again…but never mind, I am willing but this does not mean that I can accept it,” she said at the Freedom of the People ceramah organised by the Penang government to honour Anwar.
Azizah said she felt most sad when Malaysians do not realise that Anwar is a political prisoner persecuted for his political beliefs and struggles.
“Why can’t Malaysians see this fact? This is what makes me sad,” she cried.
